I'm running 175bhp on my XEV. It's true what Stevo says. But the pleasure and sound you get from them is worth all the hassle. I'd say the manifold will be a killer on cash and head. Give me a shout if you need some help bro. Many ways around spending big money.

I spent about 6 months gathering parts and saving. Like you said it takes time.
Look in projects thread Astra Sri X20XEV. Some good pics and parts list.
I've finally got some throttle bodies and sorting rods.

But as stevo says, the Ashley exhaust alone will cost you nearly as much as the xe lump and the xe engine is way tuneable compared to the xev, save your money get a decent xe or go mad with a LET or just try and find an XER engine then all the work you want to do to the xev is done

Nice Stevo. I'm from Manila, Philippines and I got a Cali '96 X20XEV auto tranny. Blanked my EGR, removed the CAT ( it's lrgal here), installed a free flow muffler. I felt the difference after doing these and ran it up to 210 kph w/ still lots to spare. I'm planning to install a "long" 4-2-1 exhaust manifold in the nearest future and if my wallet permits, buy a pair of fast cams. Do you think I can reach 155-160 horses by the mods I mentioned. Any reply would much appreciated. TIA

the question is ,do you want more power or do you want to go faster, vauxhall needed an engine that would pass emission laws and the c20xe wouldn't, it is a race engine basically that Vauxhall put in road cars to satisfy homlogation rules, the x20xev uses the same block as a c20xe but the heads are different ,for emissions purposes.you could take the head off get it skimmed to bump the compression ratio up,it helps .then get a fuel pressure regulator and up the fuel pressure, but don't go to mad as you will knacker the injectors.the x20xev flywheel is a heavy lump, replacing it with a lighter one is another great way of getting the engine to accelerate faster.but all these things are expensive if you buy new,but getting them secondhand makes it a lot cheaper. I have a track cavalier with an x20xev in it,lightened flywheel, head skimmed to the max, port match and polished manifold,4 into one front manifold and piper rear box,k &n filter panel with modified airbox{picks up air from bumper not under wheelarch}.it has made 150 bhp on a rolling road ,not brilliant I know but I haven't spend hundreds on it,loads of bits have come from ebay.personally the x20xev eng is brilliant.
