I was under the impression that the Omegas with the V6 was front wheel drive, for some reason. Are all the late Omegas rear wheel drive?

I feel like a complete newbie asking about this, but hey... can`t know it all

 

your best bet is an omega manual the r28 is supposed to be the strongest but there arent many about, well that i can find! There are loads of r25-28 manuals about but they arent as strong. Alternitavely you could use a ford type 9 or a borg warner t5 with a bellhousing depends on your budget.

In which cars are the r28 used as opposed to the r25-28?
I want to try to stick to the Opel/Vauxhall parts and keep things as standard as possible for maintenance reasons.

Thanks for all input, this is all put on hold for a while due to unexpected car purchases... re the three Admirals. Old habits die hard! Might be in need of a straight 24V with a tranny though... Want it in the 72 Admiral 2.8E. Would be a nice everyday combination.

The stongest opel/vx gearboxes is from the omega with 3.0 or 3.2 v6 engines. They are called R28 or R30. They also have the correct flange pattern, older R28 gearboxes(from omega(carlton 24v) have a different pattern.

But if you want a really strong gearbox for rwd car, you should look for a BMW 328i or M3 5-speed transmission. With a welded flange change they work awsome. They can take 600-700 whp. A company i sweden sells them bolt on for 6500 SEK.
I have one in my omega with 700 whp/780nm.....

I`ll check the opel-info.de website. Another guy mentioned it as well, so thanks to both of you. 700whp sounds... terrifying, to be honest. But fun How did you go about getting that much out of it?

 

Its built by a swede... c20xe block w/girdle, stock crank, SPM rods, JE pistons, ported head, bigger supertech valves, enem z42 cams, supertech springs, Precision sc6265 billett turbo, Autronic ecu. 700 whp/780nm at 2.9 bar boost. this is with E85 fuel.

Alf, you should build the Admiral with a straight six 24valve engine. Boost it and have fun
