tbh it sounds about normal for a 1.4spi
perhaps yours is a 1.6mpi which is why you think yours is much quicker?

 

Sounds slow even for one of them to be fair! Mine will do 80 up fairly steep hills when psuhed...

Recently borrowed my dads motor which has just had a mini service (new air filter, rotor arm, ditributer cap, plugs and ht leads, cam belt).

Had to drive it to work on the motorway and found it aboslute gash to drive (i have a astra mk3 1.6). Found it barely managable to over take HGVs that were in the slow lane. Max speed with pedel to the floor was 80 on a flat road, it struggled at 60 uphill on motorway.

aparently he did the service to get rid of this problem, but still no joy?

Any ideas? a fuel blockage?

check the cat is not blocked, breaking up?

 

check the cam belt isnt 1 tooth out, that would have the same problem

nah your right mine'll also happily pull over 80, i was assuming u werent being 100% literal

try unbolting the cat from the downpipe and taking it for a drive, see if its any better

 

These 1.4's can't be that slow surely?
Pretty much any car should do a ton on the flat.

 

i'd think i'd struggle to get there tbh

mines got an SR cam and no cat and would still struggle a bit to get to 100mph i'd recon

i had mine just above 5krpm on the flat in 4th and it wasnt really wanting to go much faster, gearbox calc shows that to be about 95mph

 

Funny, mines recently developed a flat spot / hesitation when you floor it in first or second gear... it accelerates upto a point, then theres a delay... then you get a sudden burst of power after a second or two.
It seems slower than normal too.

I can vouch, they're normally not that slow, this problem has definately only appeared in the past few weeks.
Thinking back, the only thing thats happened lately, is it ran extremely low on fuel for the first time since I've owned it... so the fuel filter analogy would make sense.
Anyone know where its located ?

I have a 1.4 8v auto (for medical reason's) and mine will quite happily go past a ton all day long, It may have a few modifications but it was hitting a ton before i did them. I agree, Cat has calapsed or timming out.
