New battery... recommendations?

I think my battery is about knacked now, as it will not hold a decent charge for more than a week (poor starting, etc.) Just wondered if there were any better makes I could benefit from, sort of an upgrade? I've heard that diesel engine batteries are better than petrol engine ones; is this true, and in what sense?
Any ideas on makes and where to obtain them / how much etc?

Thanks

all a diesel batterey is is the heavy duty version of the petrol one, it takes more amps to turn over a diesel engine than a petrol one. so more amps availible mean easier starting in the cold mornings

Right....
Seems that diesel batteries are deffo bigger on the power than petrol, but it's all about how big your battery tray is...
The battery for your car is a GM44-T7 (Mk2 Astra 1.3) and that is 212mm x 175mm x 175mm (LxWxH)
The GM60-T7 is 247 x 175 x 175
The GM66-T7 is 277 x 175 x 175

So, it kinda all depends on how big a battery you can fit in the tray...

Mint, so I could put the GM85-t7 in which should give me about twice the Cold Cranking Amps: useful for the colder mornings were getting recently! Could my alternator cope with the higher amp capacity?

Also, just for reference, what are the dimensions for the GM85-t7?

Does it matter if the battery base is a little bigger than the tray itself? As long as I can secure it safely then it should be ok? If not, then which battery would you suggest?

Thanks for all the help! :)

As long as it's very secure then there won't be a problem...
Remember that the bigger amperages weigh more and cost more dosh..... you may be just as well getting one a bit bigger.
The recommended one for the car is adequate, so a slightly bigger one would be cool too....

Personally, I would measure the battery tray and see what the biggest one I could fit in there is. No overhangs or anything, just a decent fit in the tray...
Remember about the height though, you don't want to be unable to shut your bonnet because of the 225mm tall battery you've just bought ;)
