Guess how many teeth my cambelt jumped!!

After ages of being of the road for running quite crappy and fiddleing here, there and everywhere, fixing other problems etc etc, we eventually found out why it was idleing so badly. The cam belt had 'jumped' 4 teeth! The belt wasn't warn or stretched , but was due in a few 1000 miles or so. My girlfriends Dad (my mechanic, quite handy) said if they jumped 1 or 2 teeth then its normally brown pants time and an expensive bill.
So i'm quite lucky to still have a engine, he put the timing right with the old belt and its as sweet as a nut, new belt turned up yesterday for it so thats going on today.!

Bit too close tbh ! New belt is on now and all fines, still can't understand how/why it happened though, maybe just one of 'those' things..!

my exhaust pulley got jamed and moved 3 teeth out last monday. NO DAMAGE which is very lucky on a 1.6 16v as valve clearance is sweet F.A

I hope you replaced the Tensioner pulleys.

That's normally the Cause of jumping teeth.

i have metal pulley. bascialy as the engine is revving more now i have TBs small bolts seem to come loose. 1 on the inner cam cover came loose and jammed a pulley making the belt slip!!

LMAO !

Still going stong with new belt on! And still can't work out how it happened

All the tensioner pulleys where changed for the posher, better ones when my g/f's Dad owned it, they set him back a few $$

Is your engine running smoothly Dicko?? Or maybe some good old lock nut compound would save the engine?

Hmmmmmmm 2 skipped teeth on my engine would almost certainly have killed itself.

I'm not going through the ordeal of bent valves, cracked head, and damaged pistons ever again.

My old veccy V6 seemed to have died last weekend with Carlp at the wheel.

Carlp picked it up on Sat from garage, bloke said it had skipped 6 teeth

....tensioner shattered,but caused no damage to the engine, just a cambelt change needed.

Damn lucky!!!

Get a compression test done when it's back together.
