Help me, i have been looking around for a gear box for my vectra 1.8 for a while now and have come across a breakers yard that has quite a few of them and they are only 100 quid each. ( excellent) But worried that i might get a duff one and it might end up costing me a fortune to have the macanic to put it in only to have to take it back out, this is a risk i am willing to take just want to know if when i choose one is there any bad things i can look out for? any info would be great thanks

Try to get one from a car that has obviously been in a smash - that way you know why the car is there (ie it's not been scrapped because the gearbox is broke!) 
Failing that get a written receipt or a recon box from a specialist
