Currently i have a f20 gearbox running quaife lsd.

Now im wanting to change the final drive. Currently its a 3.55 FD i think.(The standard one)
But having researched a bit i read there is a 3.94 available from a certain f16 gearbox.

Now im either willing to buy a complete f16 with this final drive in it. Or if anyone knows where i can possibly get one from that would be even better..

Im looking for a fd anywhere between a 3.8 to a 4.2.
Ive tried the usual rally spares andn o one can help.
So if anyone can shed any light on this id be very happy.
Quaife wont supply a fd gear seperate. i was told it comes with a full gear kit! whoops!

cheers

final drive does what it says on the tin, its the ratio of gear between the end of the gearset main drive and the crown wheel of the differential. the "final..drive" literally is the final drive before power goes to the wheels.

the bigger the number the more mechanical advantage the gearbox has on the diff. so basically bigger number = more acceleration, but as tom said its a trade off for acceleration at higher car speeds.

Exactly.
You have a set of gears. And then a final drive.

The engine revs are a lot higher than the wheel revs. So the final drive divides the speed down a bit more. In doing so it gives you
more torque at the wheels.

If you lower the final drive (increae the number. For example, going from 3.55 to 3.9 is a change of 10%. So the wheels spin 10% slower than they used to for a given engine rpm. That's the same as the engine spins 10% more quickly than before for the the same road speed.

So you hit the rev limiter at a 10% lower road speed in each gear, but you have 10% more torque at the wheels. In my case this made the car feel better in the 10-60mph area. It will make the car slower, say from 100-120 because you "use up the gears more quickly".

im with you now tom.. cheers.. might play with the motor this weekend then, im running the v6 with an f18 from a cav and have to keep the revs high to pull away nicely, the gears seem crap, gonna go have a look now and see if the box is wide or long etc, hopefully can get tha f16cr to fit in the box?

if you mean this nut, you can just tap it round on one of the castleations with a suitable drift.

lmao lmao lmao
odders you amaze me where u get all these pics from..

yeah thats the nut i was on about. last time i took it out, i tried that method, but just ended up breaking the teeth off one bye one.

Quite probably got a 3.7 final drive in it.
the gear raio's really are shitzer tho.. 1st is exellent tho, good from bout 30mph

It will increase torque at the wheels
It will improve acceleration at low- mid speeds
It will reduce acceleration at high speeds
It can limit top speed, depending on rev limiter etc

Mine is now limited to 129mph, whereas it could go to 138 before.
