C20XE Oil Restrictor/Plug Question

Hey guys

Now I'm chasing a final answer on this

the oil plug/restrictor found on the C20XE blocks, but isnt there on the C20NE blocks, nor is it there on the X20XEV

now people run X20XEV blocks with C20XE heads correct? with no problems?
Then my next questions basically
is it actually required?

see the pictures below

the first is MY block which was a C20NE block without the valve fitted
Image

the second is the same block, different pistons but this time i had the little bung fitted, notice though that this doesnt work as there is not enough block surface area around the outer edge to seal against the head gasket, so without adding more surface face (welding the block and having it surfaced again) you cant really run a 16V head on an 8V block with a 16V gasket..
Image

the third is a clear c20xe block with the oil restrictor in full view, notice the difference in block surface area from second pic to third pic around the restrictor
Image

the fourth is the x20xev block with no restrictor

i think this one is an ecotec block

so if people are using X20XEV blocks with the 16v head, is that ok then to basically have a C20NE block, weld up the back of it to increase the surface face to seal the head gasket just EXACTLY like the X20XEV block then (see below, this is what the C20NE block would look like with the extra surface area welded on)

OR should be using a block with the special oil restrictor thing in it... from what i have read/searched is that this little thing basically does nothing... and everyone says XE head ontop of a XEV block is a goahead

I'm using a cometic/wiseco MLS headgasket by the way, if that means anything or not

reason being is im building this XE and i dont want to have oil pressure problems, or any sort of oil starvation issues

ive had problems in the past with a jammed releif valve and that caused 2 rebuilds until i replaced it with a brand new pump, but this build ill be using the SBD nylon releif valve kit and the steel inner oil pump gear..

Would an 8v gasket not work better ?

Also, I see you are using ARP headbolts with and 8v setup.
Could you supply me with the part nr ?

the restrictor is there to keep oil in the head when the engine is switched off, it dosent control the flow of oil to the head, just means if you leave it out the lifters might be a bit more noisy when you initially start the engine, id personally just not bother with it and leave it out.

My C20XE does not have the oil restrictor in it, maybe some previous owner had it removed. Unfortunately it runs only for 800km until now and i my car is stopped because of a problem in drivetrain (unrelated with the oil thing). I'm taking my chances in that engine, let see if that restrictor thing will give me any problems.

Look at that from SBD:

"Block
Blocks are tough as old boots and of no real concern. However, the oil feed to the head can get blocked up and most specialists such as SBD modify this area. Basically, the oil feed consists of a ball-bearing device which gets stuck so it's removed, the hole blocked up with abung, through which a 3/32 inch hole is drilled - the head doesn't need much oil in these engines. Extra capacity potential is there and pistons are available up to 88mm, which is maximum bore. This will give 2.1-litres and plenty of torque, although the most common is an 87.5mm combination for several reasons. First, standard head gaskets are available to this size and second, it still gives room for one more life in the block before it dies."
