quite hard to photo, down inside the cylinder head.
im not familiar with these Z22's ... but it looks like the top of the inlet-side chain guide, might have broken off.
can anyone confirm that for me, please.

if it has broken off, id imagine the plastic's gone brittle, and it'll need a timing chain set, before it shits the bed.

lucky i bothered to check the chains, as that guide had broken into 3 pieces, and was floating, hugging the chain.

the top piece of the guide, had come off, and housed itself, inside the chain loop, next to the oil squirter.

the bottom bolt was a few threads out, took it out with my fingers, and the top bolt was missing.
the bolt must have rattled out, and got kicked by the chain, flew across to the left side of the engine, and found a spot to chill in the bottom left, missing the running gear. could have totalled the engine that.

the tensioner on the balance chain, appears to also be dead.
slack in the chain, and not much resistance in the tensioner spring.

i dont know how this engine is still going. it must have been running like this for a while. lucky it hasnt shit its self.
ill get both chains replaced, and hopefully it'll be all good
