any ideas what gearboxes will bolt up to a z18xe as they seem to be all made of cheese gone through 2 now..

Pretty much any FWD gearbox will physically bolt on, it's just a case of making sure you have the right clutch components. Is it cable or hyraulic clutch? On a cable clutch an F18 or F20 is the obvious choice, especially if you keep killing the smaller boxes. You will have to mix and match the clutch and CV's/Shafts if you go for a "big block" box.

What car?

Its a corsa c 1.8 sri , keep munching through the f17 boxes .. Has dblias inlet and throttle body , p&p head and many many more its by no means a standard engine .. But anyway it has a hydraulic clutch .... I have no idea bout corsa c's and new vauxhall gearboxes , I'm an old vauxhall faithful so much simpler :)

I'm much more at home the the older stuff as well, but I'm suprised the f17 doesn't stand up to it. If you're convinced you're overpowering the boxes I'd research the F23 - these seem to be used on 2.0 XE/XEV/ZLET conversions in the Corsa C and should be plenty strong enough for a tuned 1.8. Clutch, mount and CV's/shafts will need looking into if you go this route though.

Does a big block gearbox bolt up to a small block engine ? im pritty sure the flywheel bolt holes are diffrent aswell on the big block engines.

i think you will smash up a f14 within weeks of putting it on, i went through 5 f17's in my astra before i changed the engine.

my friend's dad has a taxi firm who runs mk4 astra 1.7dti's which has a variation of the f17 aswell. He puts an extra 500ml in his gearboxes and cuts his gearbox faliures in half. dont know how/why exactly, but the last one i bought was off a 1.6 8v and put 2.2 liters in when i changed it. needless to say it lasted 2 years and was still on the engine when i sold it.

may have been luck of the draw or something i dont know, but i thaught id share it with you :)

yeah looked into an f23 dave seems a bit much work and money and for the power i have seems a bit much to put an f23 on not 100% on the power and gear ratios for it to be decent .... yeah a few mates and boys around me seem to be going through f17 boxes like they are made of cheese , you can tell them coming a mile off they sound supercharged haha! ... the f13 are plentiful though so thats what im looking at until the money comes for something bigger than a 1.8, hmmm yeah will give what your saying a try bit more oil cheers for that :)
