While the engine is in bits and out the car I reckon it would be a good time to rebuild it..

I've got an early crank, 6kg flywheel to go in and some early forged pistons while I'm there....

anyone got any recommedations/advice as to what to replace etc?

Also to make it a bit more interesting I'm on a budget :(

Cheers

Head gasket!

Bearing shells (check they need replacing at least)

rings (clearly gonna do that anyway.

valve stem oil seals

water pump.

oil pump would also be nice to replace

anything gasket-wise.

Paint the rocker cover, and clean up the rest of the engine. :)

Rest of it should be sorted I reckon

You can get a oil pump reapir kit for £15 at local motor factors. It replaces the internals, as thats the parts that wear out. No need to buy a new one.

Water pumps are also between £17-£25 depending on where you go.

New bearing shells are about £50 as mentioned, thats a complete set for the crank and bid ends of the pistons. The small ends of the pistons theres no need to replace unless they are lose or broken (very rare).

I've also bought the GM head gasket kit, top half is £50, bottom half is £50 too. It has all the gasket and seals that you want. But I have noticed that you still need some (ie throttle body gasket).

Again new belts, and rollers and tensiors all came to about £50 too. New head bolts £10. New oil valve stem seals 70p ea.

All prices from www.autovaux.co.uk
