hey,

i have a gsi ecotec astra 97 plate..

it seems to hover over the 90o mark when driving normal but after stopping for a few seconds eg. in traffic it shoots to 100o quite quick.. then the fans kick in.. it goes down to 98o ish.. seems to me this is a bit hot for my liking..

its fine for water and dosent use any.. was wondering is this normal or do i need to have it seen too? or is their anyway for me to have it running cooler?

thanks.

a fan switch turns the fan on at a certain temp, the thermostat opens and closes at certain temps to control water flow around the cooling system, they are only cheap.

so im best flushing it, changing thermostat, then putting good quality coolant in?

think i can sort that

btw what temp should the fan come in at?? mine is kicking in at 100 so am i best to change that too?

Should be around 80/90. It's probably down to something else rather than the switch itself causing it to come in late, either the stat or a blockage/air lock.

With the thermostat removed, flush it in both directions, the matrix often gets blocked, so remove the pipes at the block end and flush both ways, then refit one pipe and flush, then repeat the other way
