Hi all,

So bought a classic 98 Tigra with the X16XE engine, replaced head gasket on only 33,000 miles but that’s fine, all went well.

Fired up and ran like a dream for a few days, then it seemed to be idling very high. Took it to see what code it gave me and it was the PO505 Idle Air Valve, which I replaced. Was not a fun job.

This sadly has not cured the issue. All vacuum hoses seem fine, when I detach the MAP sensor hose the revs drop to a semi sensible level but not really what I would call smooth.

Also to note, when it fires up from cold it runs perfect until the pre-heat/choke is switched off, then runs high.....

My hands are screwed working on it! Just need some helpful advice if anybody can assist??

Sounds like a MAF issue to me. Try unplugging it and start it, if it runs ok unplugged, it’ll be that causing your issue
