why does the let motronic 2.7 need a speed reference from the abs system ?
if you can follow haynes manual wiring schematic> page 353, line 1122 goes to page 349, line 733 which is the speed signal from the abs to the electronic speedo. then it goes out from page 349, line 731 to page 345, line 344(4wd) and 371(mot 2.7) i can live with the 4x4 ecu needing it cus of the 16mph requirement but to the motronic i don't know why ???

it adjusts the fuelling and ignition maps according to speed i guess?

ie medium throttle, unchanging speed = cruising so lean off fuelling a bit?

it needs a road speed signal to initiate over run fuel cut off abnd to regulate the idle speed when moving to prevent stalling.

Its not a chainsaw it needs to know if its loaded or not.
