ive got one of those "tech2" OBD2 interface things... any idea if it will work with that?

sounds a bit scary flash upgrading your ecu though!
i doubt it as it needs to run the kwp2000 protocol, best to get one off ebay, the ecu flasher should work also (but I've not tested it) and is pretty cheap.

ok guys, now i am confused as hell. so im gonna post some pics i took,
last eve i looked at the engine.
looked in the oil filler cap seen 2 cams!!!
the engine says vauxhall.
cauxhall say its the gm engine Y17DTL - low blow- the turbo kicks in at about 2200 rpm
a diesel specialist says its the 16v isuzu lump as they were the ones who replaced the fuel ecu
here are some pics i took wiv my gx30 cam phone
ahh,m maybe no, how do i post pics?
its an isuzu 1.7 Y17DTx, i'm sure they put vauxhall on the engine cover, I will check my DTi tomorrow when it arrives.

Turbo does kick in at 2-2200rpm.

the difference between the Di and DTi is the Di does not have an intercooler, thats what the T in DTi stands for.

If you retro fit an intercooler, you'll probably get the extra 7bhp or so difference between the two engines, then chip it.
Without the intercooler the air intake will be hot and not dense, this is not efficiant and reduces power.
The bigger/more efficiant intercooler will make the air colder and more dense therefore increasing power.

A good upgrade for any Turbo Diesel is getting a decent size intercooler, I think the 2.2DTi uses the same small intercooler as the Y17 engines, and its a small intercooler for a 1.7!

One garage remarked on the size of the DTi intercooler as 'its like intercooling your pencil!'

if your not sure about doing it yourself, collins performance engineering based in congleton cheshire have a chip tuning division who will chip almost any car, if its obd tuning like the Di or DTi they charge about 300quid.
Collins are the RS500 / ford (dare I swear?) performance tuning guys and are reputable.

That said, they could not connect to my DTi so could not tune it, so for half their price I bought the kit and did it myself!

Yes you can flash the ecu on a Y17DT engine in a Mk4 astra. I bought the kit, and done it using chilinskis files he uploaded last year. Worth doing mate, car goes like a rocket!! bit smokey tho' cough cough!!

JonesyGT, did you manage to get hold of the files?

My wife's Corsa could do with a bit more go and an easy (and cheap) flash tune appeals to me.

The kwp i bought would happily flash my friends corsa c y17dti but it would not connect to my combo c y17dti for whatever reason.

When you attempted to read the files with the kwp2000 it would come up as not recognized. The van would then not start as if it had erased everything from the ecu. I had to then disconnect the battery for 10 mins or so and it reset itself and ran on the original map but i never could get the ecu to flash using kwp.

I ended up getting it remapped professionally and even they had trouble accessing the ecu?
