ok , where do i start, having spent the last week looking through this forum and looking at dutch diesels site i think that i can do the mod of removing the polo washer for more ooomph but can anyone say whether this mod works with the gm low blow lump, also what other tuning mods can be done?

the polo washer is on Isuzus, not your tardy GM snail engine.

I thought the y17 was the isuzu 16valve turbo diesel.

i also thought the only difference between the Di and DTi was the Di did NOT have an intercooler and there was no difference in hi or low blow.

What car is this engine in?

If it is a Y17DT isuzu 16valve, then these are dead easy to tune via the OBD port, and I can help you do this.
If its a 1.7 16valve Di, then I would suggest you add an intercooler first as this is easy nuts and bolts stuff and you should be able to pick one up with the pipes from the scrappers for a few quid.

OBD tuning is much better than bolt on boxes, let me know the type of engine you have and I'll explain the OBD tuning bit to you.

Should have read your details.

If you have a corsa 1.7Di on a 51 plate then it should be the Isuzu 16valve Turbo diesel and not the crappy 'snail slow' GM low blow.

Being a Di it shouldn't have an intercooler in front of the radiator (you would see the pipes route from the turbo to the intercooler).

I would suggest fitting one of these first.

Tuning is simple, you will need to get hold of a KWP2000 interface, you can buy these on ebay for 50-70 quid.
Just buy the hardware unit only as I can e-mail you the software and tuning files.

Connect the KWP2000 hardware unit to the OBD port your car and into a USB port on a laptop. Run the KWP2000 software which I can e-mail you.
Connect to your ECU with the ignition turned on and download your cars file, save it!
Once downloaded your car probably won't start, don't worry, just upload the file you saved (put back the file you took out) your car will start now!
Then have some fun, simply upload one of the tuned files, when uploaded turn off the ignition for 10 secs then turn the key and away you go!

I have done a few Y17DT engines (the one with the intercooler) and chip tuning makes a real good difference.
Having the hardware yourself means you can play about with different files and do your mates cars too, then when you come to sell it (or smash it) just reload the original file.

If you would like the files just let me know.

If not sure, take the oil filler cap off the engine, inside you will just see (or feel with your finger) 2 cams if its the isuzu 16valve jobbie, the cams are really close together and in a same size head as a single, so don't assume it!

That's for the old 8V Isuzus.

The 16VDirect Injection Isuzus have electronically controlled fuel pumps.

TUNING DTi VXLs

I HAVE PUT THE SOFTWARE WITH DTi TUNING FILES ONLY ON OUR WEBSITE.

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THEM FROM.

has the ecu reader and writer and a few files, make sure they match your ecu first.

you will need a usb KWP2000 falsher unit availble on ebay, just do a search for 'kwp2000'

its easy to do, if people need help the could migweb do a feature on this and i'll explain how?

software on, but it is 21meg and no good unless you have a kwp2000 ecu flasher to program your ecu.

defo yes!, loads of grunt, similar economy to standard, lots more fun. did it to my wifes t/d last year... fantastic fun you wont believe the difference!

ok guys, now i am confused as hell. so im gonna post some pics i took,
last eve i looked at the engine.
looked in the oil filler cap seen 2 cams!!!
the engine says vauxhall.
cauxhall say its the gm engine Y17DTL - low blow- the turbo kicks in at about 2200 rpm
a diesel specialist says its the 16v isuzu lump as they were the ones who replaced the fuel ecu

ive got one of those "tech2" OBD2 interface things... any idea if it will work with that?

sounds a bit scary flash upgrading your ecu though!
