Anyone know about this conversion? I know it has been done a few times before so there must be some info out there!

OK m8, getting this done myself later this year. Speak to Arno
at EDS. 8500 Euros which is about £5,500. It includes all parts
and labour but you got to get your car to them in Germany.
He's totally booked up until October and I'm hoping to get mine in
immediately afterwards but if you don't mind waiting a while
they're worth a chat.
I've had quotes from companies in the UK in excess of £16k for
this job so £5,500 seems very reasonable.

Interesting...

What kind of transfer box are you going for?

I'm sure that the £5,500 Arno quoted would only include a std
transfer box. I'm not sure how much they can take so I'll keep an
eye on RDS and if it's clear that it's not up to the job I'll look into
getting a sports box.
I've toyed with this idea before but this price seems justifiable and
will be the only real way I'm gonna get the power down. Arno
reckons the turn around time is 2 months so if I can get it in by
November I should get it back early next year.

lmao I was sitting here wondering if Richard could do it in a weekend and decided that it might be possible ;)

AJRAT - Unless your car is making really silly power (like over 350bhp) then don't bother.

lmao
If he can do it weekend he'll get my order too!
RDS and I were picking Arno's brains about it at Billing and he's
done a few now. He reckons the Mk1 and Mk2 are complete
nightmares to convert but the Mk3 is a doddle and he knocks
them out a £2,500 a shot. Wonder if Furburger would be tempted.

For £2,500 Furburger will be over there yesterday lmao

Richard has always said no to 4x4 Astras but with a hint of "I wonder" in his eye ;)

If you waved Five Grand under his nose in cash I can imagine he might be persuaded :D I can imagine its hard though...

i have phase three and never have problems with launches, but just thought it would be fun to try! How about rear engine? Will the front shafts fit the rear hubs?

I think it's worth considering at phase 3 level.
I'm interested that your not having many problems with your
launches. I've just put the phase 4 in my Astra and am expecting
major problems.

You need a proper boost controller to get the most from it. I would say you'll have to stagger it something like

0.6/7 bar in 1st
1 bar in 2nd
1.2 in 3rd
4th 5th and 6th should run the full 1.5 with no wheel spinning.

Rob (16vastra) had a good link to a piccy of the underside of a RWD astra to show some of the work involved:

What about torque steer ?
dont really get much torque steer, and in the dry it takes off with no spin whatsoever. Shite in the wet. Ill bet there isnt much on the road that will keep up with a 997kg (or something) Astra with phase 4! You are a nutbar sir!
