Right dudes, needing to have a look and see what is causing this tapping sound on my let, engine is removed and all sump bolts have been removed but im guessing the gasket has sort of melted and acting like glue, any tips or suggestions on how to get it off, dont really want to crack it when its in perfect condition!!??

PS have tried rubber mallet, and block of wood, even tried very thin steel scraper, still stuck!

Its a mofo! U just have to keep at it with the mallet and try and get something in between the sump and the block (not something that could damage it though!) ;)

Once u get it started it shouldnt be too hard :D
Damn site easier out of the car than laying underneath like i was

Cheers for the reply, i was thinking maybe heating around the base of the block mildy with the blowtorch ( since the gasket will need renewed anyway) do u think that could help, it cant really damage much apart from the gasket? I can remember my XE one being this hard to shift!!
