If I were to Sell it at auction?

I bought the bloody thing about 6 months ago with the intention of fitting an XE into it, but my plans changed and I am now left with a car I dont need.

Its a completely standard white 3-door 1.4LS. It doesnt have power steering and has the SPI engine. Perfect transplant material, but seemingly not very desirable for people to buy as it is.

2 lady owners before me, and 73k on the clock.

The paintwork is far from perfect although there are no major dents, scratches or rust.

It has 11 months MOT and 6 months tax.
Recent new discs, pads and flexi-hoses.

The kind of people who have enquired about it so far have all been young loons or their parents, looking for a first car. They seem to be put off by the lack of power steering and some grumble that a 1.4 will be dear to insure.

They also expect it to be in immaculate showroom condition. Those who have turned up to see it have all moaned about wee dings or scuffs (which I told them about on the phone, I never claimed the car was mint) or the fact it doesnt have alloy wheels etc.
WTF do people expect? its a 9 year old base-model vauxhall, which I have advertised for £1000, its not some rare collectors item thats been wrapped in cotton wool all its life.

I think a grand is a fair price for it, its reliable, smooth and quiet to drive, and my slightly out-of-date copy or Parkers values it at between £1050 and £1500 depending on condition.
I just need rid of it, I would go as low as £850 but I really cant be assed with people phoning at all hours of the day and night about it, so if I put it to the auction, how much is it likely to go for?
I would cash-in the tax if I did this.

i'd have thought it would have gone for 1000. If you goto the auctions put a reserve and if you dont get what you want then theres nothing lost.

Its worth the asking price, ok its not mint but you have stated this. Its certainly no banger and its going to be a good car for a lot of years to come.

Possibly to old for the Aberdeen market though? Considering the sorta cars you and I see guys my age driving daily.

I know the last time you went to the auction you didnt do to great, but lets face it its not doing alot of use just sitting around getting dirty. That money could be spend on the Pug, beer or hoes ;)

I think, no offence, you might be aiming too high.
My Mk3 with all the toys and a nice colour cost me £900, a year ago, alright it's got twice the miles.
Yesterday a mate bought a K plate Cav Diplomat, 2L 8V, 94k, with the newer wire spoke effect wheels AND the older fan style for £500.

Now, I can see why people moan about the lack of PAS as so many cars have it these days. Alright we can moan and say it sholdn't be needed on a Corsa, but your average Joe and Mrs. Joe who drive 'cos they need to and get no enjoyment out of it, will go for the PAS model.

Personally I think you should expect around £5-600 for it.

To be honest £1000 is an awful lot of money for a car like that, and as you have said its not mint. To be honeswt if you can get £500-£600 for it then your doing quite well.

the price of corsa b's has dropped loads now that corsa c's are plentyfull on the 2nd hand market.... unless you have something special eg corsa gsi or late spec corsa sport then expect values to drop fast....

You say its 9 yrs old. What reg is it, L, M ? I have been looking for for a little 1.2 corsa for the girlfriend latley and ive seen loads! K and L platers for between £600 to £1000 and tidy N/P reg cars for around £1000-£1200. I think if your car was mint, you would be lucky to get £1000 for it to be honest (in my area anyway). 1.4's seem to be advertised for less in my area aswell, maybe due to young 1st drivers wanting 1.2's over the 1.4's i dunno?

For around £1000-£1200, i saw tidy cars, but always had something about it to put me off enough to walk away. All the mint ones were saold straight away as soon as the trader came out! We eventually gave up on looking at corsa's and bought a tidy 98/R 1.1i saxo for £1250.

I think your car would struggle to reach £500 at auction if its not near mint as you say to be honest mate. Obviously depends on the day, but just going on the many ive seen lately.

Thought as much, plus the run-up to xmas isnt a great time to sell a car anyway.

Gonna have to drop the price I think.

Having said that, there are only 4 other corsas on Autotrader within 100 miles of here that are cheaper than mine (£750-£1000)

Ill pop along to the auctions tomorrow night and see how much similar stuff is going for.

:(

It depends what type of auction it is i suppose, whether its trade or public based. Dealers may not pay much more than say £500, but it may be worth more to Mr public who wants to save a few quid and take a risk.
