I'm thinking about buying a private plate for my astra but don't know if I can!

The car used to have a private plate but then changed back to the original plate a few years back. On the log book next to the reg number is say something like 'non transferable' (can't rememeber)

Does this mean I'm buggered?

Cheers,
OP.

My understanding is that the current plate cannot be sold, but you can put a private plate on.

callymental is right, my car has had 4 private plates in the past before i got the car, on my log book it says the same. you can buy a new plate but if you sell the car and want to keep the private plate you will need to reregister a new plate from the dvla. hence the reason that my windows are etched with the original plate number.

I think in my case, its because the original registration number was taken off to make way for a private reg, the returned to the car a year later. Not sure, but its all I can think off :)
