had a prob with my gte 16v, it was kicking out black smoke, oxygen sensor seemed to have failed. Have replaced the sensor, everything seems ok(smoke still a little grey, maybe havent tightened it up enuff) but when i unplug the oxygen sensor, i expect to see black smoke like when the sensor had gone, but doesnt kick out half as much as it did....how come?

are GTEs a little smokey anyway????

The ECU learns. It will have learned enough info from the good new sensor to fuel roughly correct if it fails.

shouldn't be, its the same C20XE as my Calibra and thats fine.

Smoke could be anything from diposts coming out of the back box thats built up over the years, from the engine, worn piston rings, worn valve seats etc, anywhere were oil can esacpe. Could be loads of reasons.

Remember that the first few mintues the ECU ignores the OS anyway, so in effect its disconnected. It needs to wait for it to warm up first, and they have heater sin them to make this waiting period as short as possile. So the car runs richer anyway at the beginning.
