After a lot of delibiration about which 'wikid ride' to go for, i have finally found the best of them all.
I'd looked at Saxo VTR's, BMW 325i's, Cavalier GSI's, Pug 106 GTI's, Astra GTE's, Golf GTI's.. but no, i thought that the only car to own which is known to be a lean mean street machine... The Vauxhall Nova.
I thought that i would go for the model which is lightest since its all about power to weight these days. So in comes Vauxhall Nova 1.0 hatchback. So low spec its not even been given a model name such as 'merit' or 'spin'. It doesnt even have a fag lighter ffs!
So i thought i'd get to it and start modifying it. I immediatly went to Halfords and got my parents to take out a £15 credit agreement to purchase the Haynes Max Power Nova Modifiying Manual. I got home and buried my head in it for the rest of the night, getting all sorts of idea's.
Next day.. Right, time to modify my new beast and make all the other nova's on the planet look very boring and standard in comparison.
Modification Budget - £30
Off i go to halfords to see what i can find, but even halfords prices were too expensive for my budget. Next stop.. B&Q
Purchased: Chicken Wire £3 odd
Then, off to my friendly motorists discount centre to purchase....
2 tins of random blue spray paint and lots of wikid stickers - £10 ..
I then got a kind donation of several rolls of different coloured insulation tape and a pack of zip ties..
Here's some before pics with it looking horribly un-maxxed:
A little while later...
We have viper stripes!! If you didnt look closely you'd never realise they were made out of blue insulation tape
We then looked at the car still thinking it looked very bare..
So out came the spray paint and since we had seen several saxo's in this style before, we thought we'd do the same.
So, two tone paint job, sunstrip, more cable ties and a rubber bath duck on the aerial, eyebrows, more stickers and a racing number on the side.
And then, we thought hang on a minute! surely every maxxed car needs a wikid exhaust! So, kindly donated to me i got two bits of drainpipe and attached them to the standard exhaust in such a way, you'd never know it wasn't the real exhaust.
Then, that night i had a brainstorming session.. already proud of making my wikid nova into a lean mean street machine. But there were things missing.. It wasn't modified enough!
Next stop: Focus Do it All
Purchased: 28 litre houshold bin - 10 quid
Having not used my mesh yet for anything either i thought i'd better use it and make my 3 quids worth go a long way... Out comes the Angle Grinder. My Weapon of mass destruction.
So, what can i do to an already wikid looking ride to make it look the dogs danglies??
I know lets mesh the grille and fit a scooby bonnet vent!!
Grille removed by use of angle grinder to make way for mesh, stuck on by windscreen sealant. Although i was very proud of the car being branded as a vauxhall so i thought i'd show off the griffin still by mounting the old grille on the front valance instead. Next, the bonnet scoop. Since the throbbing, tremendously powerful 993cc powerplant, was so highly tuned - i thought i'd need to cool it down so i can up the boost by use of a big bonnet vent (mounted so far back the only thing its going to cool down is the heater matrix)
So, angle grinder to bin, come up with a nice slash cut shape and then used windscreen sealant to secure to the bonnet.
It looks so much like a beast now, but has seemed to have knocked about 5-10 mph off my top speed... Hmm in that case i'll put that down to it accelerating faster due and topping out lower.. of course.
After a trip down the motorway at its new altered max speed of 88mph... my twin exhaust decides to part company with the car and almost hit my mates cavalier following me!! Also at some point on that journey, the rubber bath duck mascot which i had mounted behind my skull and cross bones sticker as a sort of rolls royce flying lady mascot, parted company with the bonnet, and flew off never to be seen again
So that leaves me without a wikid looking exhaust, we can't be having that... Hmm well the next best thing, if you cant have a wikid looking exhaust, have a wikid sounding exhaust!
So, off to my mates who i swear used to have a cherry bomb fitted to his astra which he removed... BARGAIN! got given the cherry bomb which should fit straight on the nova. Hmm, well aftre removing the old exhaust we spotted that it was kind of going to exit somewhere under the rear axle as its just a tad shorter than the normal exhaust.. never mind, it should sound well wikid init!!! So we fitted it on, started it up and drove it up the road, i was pleasantly surprised that my 1.0 Nova which now had just one silencer and a cherry bomb, sounded like a subaru rally car with the antil lag cutting in...
BONUS!!!
Next, more spray paint..
I decided to tint the back windows, but at the time due to a severe lack of black paint i decided to do them.. yes, blue!
At the same time i decided i better repair the rear arches with gaffa tape (we'd pulled chunks out of them when we were lifting the car clean off its wheels the past few days) and also create a rally look livery on the rear quarters.
Then, i decided that it was almost fully maxxxed, although something was missing! Ahhh!! the interior was standard!!
So, get out the blue spray paint and lets mod!! saves money getting new parts when you do it like this! Blue gearknob, dash, window winder and door handles, etc.. Looks well wikid dont ya think..
but it was missing some sloguns that are commonly seen in max power and tings like dat!!!
So i went down to where all the boy racer kids meet up, bought a blue permanent marker pen and invited them to write things on my car.
It looks so much better when they cant spell aswell don't ya think??
And here's the proud owner showing off his pride and joy:
