Has anyone used one of these or got any commnets to make. It's a device you plug into your cigar lighter in your car and saves your stereo/alarm/clock losing it's settings when you disconnect the battery (to do something electrical on your car)?

Do they work?

what it probably does it to sense when the voltage drops below say 8 volts and then bumps up the volts for a period of time to stop the settings being lost, therefore injectiong 12 v into the lighter to keep the power up

Just buy a sealed lead acid 12v house alarm battery, bout £10 and solder on some 40amp wire and battery clips. Put a 30amp inline fuse on the positive wire. Saves all the settings and you don't have to worry about it going flat because you don't need the ignition on.
