can anyone tell me what the relay in the upper right hand corner of the fuse box does? and why would it be taken out and bridged with wire and spade clips?

just looked at mine mate, it's the same.

according to the fuse box cover it's for the rear fogs

That wire link is fitted at the factory. Don't worry.

8v cally I assume.
