Im curious.

A few of you seem to be at it lately, building a new engine that is.

I wonder how much it would actually cost to build a 16v engine from scratch the way Tom S is building his. I wouldnt want all standard parts though. Any ideas?

I would love to build my own engine from scratch like that:D

well so far ive only really took my apart, cleaned all the bits up, and decided what i do and dont want to replace. Most bits will b genuine GM, coz i get a 27.5% discount at vauxhall on all bits

the oil pumps the main bit so far...

SBD Inner gear - £114
SBD Relief valve - £58.69
GM Outer gear - £13.91
GM oil cooler thermostat - £15

just a few bolts left to get now

im also getting genuine GM gaskets, and headbolts

main plans for the engine are:

ARP bolts
lighten the flywheel a bit more (its an early light 1 anyway)
de-stress the rods
new bearing shells
new valve stem seals, springs and caps

im sure a few other crazy bits are gonna fall in along the way;)

Im building the 8v Nova GSI lump on a budget, not going silly but im expecting the whole project to cost around £500 at the most inc buying the engine.

Looking alot better now

Just waitng for internals to come back.

I've often thought the same Mavv. If I had a suitable Garage I'd definitely give it a go.
