The Aircon has stopped working on the Astra - is there anything I can check before searching for a specialist?

Check the clutch on the compressor is engaging - sometimes the wire that controls it will come loose.

If the compressor doesn't cut in, along with a slight increase in revs when you turn the a/c on then it's more than likely you've lost your refrigerant, not just a small amount but almost all of it.

Best to go to a proper a/c specialist and get it checked out and leak tested, NOT have one of these cheap cowboys come round, charge you £60, not vac it down correctly (meaning you now have air in the system and will need to also change the filter/drier), put a little bit of gas in (even with only 5-10% of the recommended charge the compressor will start running and the air cool down) and then you find that it stops working again in a week.

You can check the pressure switch plugs on the pipework at the front of the engine bay buts that's about it.
