i just got my cav 2l 8v running but there appears to be a few problems.

if i rev the engine in neutral up to about 5000rpm and let the throttle go, as the reves return to idle the engine seems to rev just a small bit itself at about 2000rpm before returning to idle speed.

the other thing i noticed is that there appears to be a small amount of oil in the air breather pipe and around the air mass meter.

has anyone any ideas on what could be wrong? i haven't had time to do a good compression test yet.

Idle air control valve sounds like it needs a bit of a clean out, along with the breather pipes. Blast some carb cleaner through the pipes and take of the IAC and give that a clean too.
