Car drives ok, idles fine between 860 and 970 rpm. Sometimes the starter drags but eventually starts after a few swings. Diagnostics throws P0340-04 Camshaft Sensor Open Circuit. Replaced the cam sensor, same code keeps coming back. Traction light and service light goes on the moment I crank the engine. Car doesnt rev over 4000rpm either. Clear codes with opcom china clone v1.99. After cranking, traction light comes back followed by service indicator. Engine sounds louder than usual as well. Only code that keeps coming back is the P0340-04. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Assuming you used a genuine OEM sensor for the replacement, it may be time to double check your valve timing. Has the timing belt been replaced recently?

Timing belt replaced at 122000km along with, tensioner and water pump. This issue only came after water pump was done. Mechanic never locked the cams. Redid the timing again only to find out the engines timing cover was missing. Did the timing the old fashioned way with the depth gauge on piston #1 to get tdc. Intake cam at 9oclock and exhaust cam at 3oclock. Original 2ndhand cam sensor fitted last week after I removed the aftermarket one. Also cleaned out starter motor. Could be bendix fault. But the traction light comes on after cranking only
