These are the first official pictures of Vauxhall’s new Meriva, which is set to turn the conventional concept of family-car usability on its head with a combination of clever, rear-hinged back doors which radically improve access/egress, and a raft of unique cabin features that boost interior versatility.

The new Meriva, which will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, is the first Vauxhall to feature FlexDoors, showcased in 2008’s Meriva design concept.

FlexDoors are rear-hinged back doors which swing open towards... [Read More]

Nov 04, 2009 - by MikeWarner
General Motors (GM) has cancelled plans to sell a majority stake in its European car business Opel, including its UK brand Vauxhall. The US giant said in a statement that its board had made the decision because of "an improving business environment for GM over the past few months".

GM had agreed to sell Opel and Vauxhall to Canadian car parts firm Magna. It added that it would now be seeking aid for Opel from the German government and other European states. GM added that it had also come to its decision because of the importance of Opel and... [Read More]

» The Ellesmere Port roll-call: from Viva to Astra Mk6 in 46 years!
Nov 01, 2009 - by MikeWarner
While Vauxhall’s first foray into the compact family car market came in 1936 with the H-Type – the world’s first unitary construction (monocoque) model, it was the launch of the Viva in 1963 that really saw the Griffin gain momentum in what rapidly became, and remains, the best-selling sector of the market. Launched in 1963, the Viva was initially built in Luton, with production transferring to the brand new Ellesmere Port facility the following year – home to each generation of compact Vauxhall family car ever since. Light, simple to maintain and neatly styled the HA Viva... [Read More]

» New Astra Arrives in the Nick of Time!
Nov 01, 2009 - by MikeWarner
As some of the company’s most prolific and visible customers, GM UK Fleet has pulled out all the stops to ensure that versions of the all-new Astra for major police forces will be available to coincide with the launch of the new car in late 2009.

And unlike many police cars, the Astra is a ‘turnkey’ offering, built by Vauxhall at GM Millbrook, one of Europe’s leading automotive test and development centres and offered very much as a complete car, with a single invoice rather than being sold as a base car plus conversion. After all, when it’s public money... [Read More]

Based on the successful 2009 European Car of the Year, and available in hatch, saloon and Sports Tourer body styles, the high-performance Insignia will be Vauxhall’s first VXR model to adopt 4X4 technology, using a bespoke chassis developed through an extensive test programme at the gruelling Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
