Friend of mine had his car fail on a few items of welding last week. Got it all welded up and took it back for a re-test today. MOT tester picks up a tiny hole on the rear axle, around the size of a 5pence piece, and then doesn't put the car through, and tell's my mate he needs an axle. Apparently you aren't able to weld a rear axle, it needs to be replaced? Help please people!?
sounds gash to me as long as its solid be it with welded patches or one solid piece its strength integrity is the same? maybe the fella is just tryin to make a few quid fitting an axel.
Not entirerly sure mate, that's why I've posted on here. He knows I'd do the work on the car, so I dont think it's a case of making money on replacing an axle.
in my personal opinion something as small as a 5p an an axel which is dam thick metal, i dont think he could refuse you a pass if you welded it up good enough. failing that fill the hole with a weld grind it back neat then paint, saves the hassle of stripping it all down then.
Your not allowed to weld in as its a suspension part IIRC

I'd just weld it up, grind it flush and then re paint whole rear beam and just tell him you replaced it, can only test what's in front of him and you don't need to show him proof you bought a new one, or do above and take it else where
