    modifying an alloy rad?

    good day.
im intending on modifying an alloy radiator to fit a nova.
basicaly gonna chop about 2inches off the height and weld the top plate back on again.
the welding side of things im fine with but ive never cut up a rad before so just wonderin if there be any issues with my plan?
i dont think there will but thought id ask b4 cutting up a brand new rad haha
its a tx alloy rad for cav turbo
    cheers

    Re: modifyin alloy rad?

why not just buy one for a nova?? i think you'd be in a world of pain tbh buddy, as you'd need to seal the tanks inside where the fins are too

    was thinking the same
never had 1 apart but if you look how they are made, it looks as tho the sides are like a channel just with the top rail welded on to cap it off
i was thinking just cut off the top rail then cut off the excess fins out then just reweld it back on ensuring its water tight of course
Vauxhall Nova GTE GSi 2 0 16v Turbo Alloy Radiator

couldnt reali justify buyin another rad at that price when i could mod this myself for very little

Sell the Cav rad. Buy Nova rad.

Save all the messing about and retrying to cut and join it and make sure its sealed..

its the best way mate, save yourself a whole lot of money and possibly a massive headache if there's a pin hole somewhere that you miss.

Instead of chopping off the top and re-welding that back..
Would cutting a two inch section out the middle be easier?

    Post up pics your results

no because then you'd have to get in to the end tank to re weld all the galleries back to the tank.

    hadn't considered that tbh!
it would prob be a bit more tricky but it could end up less work because i`ve to lower the top hose outlet aswel!

    Re: modifying an alloy rad?

A standard cav 1 wil be longer yes but this 1 was for cav turbo so it's shorter on the passengers side for intercooler pipes ect
