    lacquer on paint

    Just finished painting the under side on my astra 4x4, I know nothing bout painting etc, but turned out not bad. Ive been told i will need to lacker over the paint cause if i dont the paint will peel off if petrol or anything gets on it. Any advise would be great.

    Was it base coat? Or direct gloss you painted with. I'd lacquer it either way if it was me, the more protection the better.

    It was out a rattle can, I got them out my work, i work in a ford dealer. So best to lacquer then??

    Yes used 3m spray on under seal, then painted over.

    only problem with rattle can clear coat is its only 1 k and wnt last long on the underside of the car due to stones weather etc.

    you need something thats hs (high solids) and 2k itll be alot more resistant to driving conditions

    depends on what paint it is, as most solvent paints its just paint straight on. so you'll need to find out what paint it is as some paints such as water base will need to be base and cleared otherwise not lacquered it will wash off

    Get some 2k lacquer, (ie lacquer you mix with a hardener) Will give best protection and is resistant to petrol etc (ideally it should have been done the same/next day from when it was painted, as you dont need to key the paint for adheasion. Should be ok though)
