    Blocking a car

How do you block sand a car for spray painting? Done most of the sanding on the car before I primered it. Do I block it now? Was thinking of spraying it a layer of black before blocking, but then must I primer it afterwards again. Also, I'm blocking with 120 grit sandpaper I buy in strips with a straight wooden block. Do I sand it down afterwards with a 400 grit for spray painting? Car going to be charcoal so I need to get out all the dents and stuff.

The dents should have been filled before priming really. If you put a lot of primer on then 120 should be ok and rubbing it back a lot should help you get a good flat surface. The black to highlight low spots doesn't need priming again - it's just topcoat same as what you are spraying over it anyway. I would go over the lot with 320 to get a final finish before topcoat.

Most you want to sand primer with is 320 grit, Then water sand that with 800.

If you are priming the car then 120 on a flat long block everything and red scotch anything you cant sand down, primer the car, leave to dry, use a light coat of black to act as a guide coat. 320 (dry) the primer off, then wet 800 the primer(to remove the 320 sanding marks)

Clean everything, masking car, re clean, then paint.

Most dents are out, or all the dents I can see with my eyes are out. Just a bit scared that when I finished painting I see dents then.

What's why you use a guide coat over the primer, it will show all the high and low spots.
