bend the little tabs up and hammer it round with a flat head screw driver and then it will just lift out

You'll need massive amounts of work to get the engine in. Leave the gearbox mount as it is as then you'll not have to adjust the driveshafts. You'll need a Saab 900 block not a 9000 as thy will give you even more work to do. You'll need to make your own rear mounting point and you'll have to make it really well too. You'll need to use the Saab rear mount with that too. Some major work involved with that 1 mate!

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

ive got a 900 engine,im just unaware of how much chassis leg to cut and i cant find picks anywere,i know its not a popular engine for a corsa wich is why i want to do it,i have a mint shell,a great auto spark as a mate and a fabracator so thats why i need some info on how mush to cut,im using my freshly rebuilt f20 so the gearbox shouldnt be a problem, yet!!!!!
thanks for help guys will post pics as i go along to show any others the way im doing it

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

I'm using f20 on my Saab engine and it's fine. Mines at stage 2 map and a few other extras so it's running roughly 240-250. You'll have to modify the downpipe to fit around the f20 but that's not hard, chop the flexi out while your at it. Just don't under-engineer your build cos these engine pack some serious weight and torque figures to match. If you don't get that rear mount right you'll have the engine doing a backflip.

i will be making proper strong mounts but i just need to see a corsa chassis leg modified or a rough idea what to cut and how much to cut

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

What I do is take the head off the b204, bolt the gearbox onto the block and drop the block and gearbox in. Obviosly bolt the gearbox mount up and stick the driveshafts in, loosely of course, just to give you a rough idea where the engine mount and rear mount need to be. Try chocking the engine in place just to get a few rough measurements. You should only have to cut enough out of the chassis arm for the aux belt but then there's still massive amounts of work to do. Dont forget you must use the Saab radiator or have a custom made 1 cos the Saab engines flow the opposite way so your corsa rad will be useless! You'll probably have to stick the battery in the boot too cos the piping will be very tight

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

my battery is in my boot oready mate, used 535 battery leads to do that,my mate works at east end radiators in glasgow so i can get him to make me a rad up,i like the idea of the head off to make up the mounts, what do you meen by massive amounts of work still to do lol, as youse all know it hassent been done alot in corsas with no pics of any conversions so idealy i want to do it so people can see the way im doing it and some others follow what im doing so any info on this will be much appreciated, i will upload some pics of my corsa soon just dont laugh at my wheels as it was a trackcar and the wheels are flouresant yellow and so is my rollcage

    thanks

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

mate its not just about getting the mounts right! the engine weighs 3 times more than the chassis was designed to take, so youve got some major strengthening to do otherwise if you go above stage 2, the engine will soon be on the deck (attached to the chassis still!) youve got to sort out the power steering pump issue, the wiring, youll have to try and squeeze the intercooler pipes in. its not like dropping a redtop in where you can simply bolt on a set of v pulleys mate its a serious job! im not trying to put you off and im not trying to say your not capable and im sorry if it comes across like i am, but i dont think you realise how much work is involved!
it will be worth it when its done but i doubt youll do another. and also as said above youll have to chop a big hole out of the bonnet too cos the engine is very tall. as ive already said though mate the most important part of your build (safety wise) is that rear mount so please dont just use the standard mount with spacers like you would a c20xe because it wont last long.
good luck and keep us posted

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

mate i totaly understand what your saying,i know the engine is heavy,i know i need to do something with power steering pump and i wont be using standard corsa mounts either, everything will be uprated and as best as i can get on my budget,im not planning running alot of power just something nice and differant, ive got a strenthening kit sitting here and tonite i was talking to my fabracator mate with regards to extending the roll cage in to the engine bay,im planning doing it right the first time to save me having to pull the engine out loads of times, i started tonite striping everything out the corsa bay to get the block and box aligned and to get a start on the chassis leg and mounts, i should be adding pics tomorow of my progress but my plan is to do a build thread with everything, well thats the plan anyway,, your help is much valued

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

the bonnet wont need cutting as the engine will just fit , the corsa with the saab engine i know the lad but there is no pictures off the car as he doesnt want to give the secrets away, i know you need to cut nearly all of the scuttle panel out as inlet sit further back on the engine, and im sure he didnt have to cut the chassis leg but dont bet me on that, as stevo said you are best getting the bottom end in with the gearbox in and then seeing how much space you have got to play with or bits you have to remove you should be able to use the corsa rear mount as you are using the f20 box but as said i would advise strengthening the mountings on the car and the mount itself as that mount takes most of the torque strain from the engine

Re: saab turbo corsa(what chassis mod to do)

With regards to the chopping required for the inlet if that is The case you could always try the inlet manifold off of a 9000 as they are a bit shorter. Ive got a spare one for sale if you do decide to go down that route. As there are no pics if you do decide to use the standard rear mount, you really should go over the top with reinforcing it In my opinion. That's is definitely the key point to the build.
Hope you put some pics up anyway mate! Good luck with it all. Hope it goes well.
