The problem here i see is that there are different standards. Myslf and tatoovstud do this for a living and understand the massive gap between high build in a can "grey thinners" and actuall high build.
Your better goin to a professional paint supplier and getting them to mix some paint and put it in a can its miles in front of halfords for quality BUT still miles behind REAL paint in the motor trade.
It all comes down to what you expect and want it to look like i would not use it on my car
Try a genuine paint supplier satin black 4 quid...... ! from halfords 7 quid.
..... And i aint seen wet and dry used for over ten years except 1500 /2000 for de nibbin.
P.s good nights sleep now too

I do understand where your all coming from, as mentioned i am only doing a engine bay so dont want it done professionally etc spray cans will do me for that or i might even smooth hammerite it, so if i spray my bay with halfords paints and spill oil or petrol on there then it will peel off, surely it cant be that bad

depends how soon after you paint it you spill stuff on it lol .. its not the best stuff imo but petrol is very aggresive to cellulose/acrylic paint systems

Haa well it is going to be at least a week as the bay will be empty after it has been painted while i rebuild my engine, so if it is left to set tidy then it shuddn be a problem should it

    Re: Spraying Advice

I put an arch on my mates astra van, he painted it with white halfrauds paint, a month later he spilled petrol down it filling it from a can and it washed off, but i suppose if you didnt get any comtamination on it for 6 or 7 years, it might be cured enough? I'll say one thing, if your spraying out of a can, avoid halfauds brand paint like the plauge. As for me doing it for a living...nope, I'm a tattoo artist, not a painter, but I do my own body repairs, restore classic fords, and do the odd repair on friends vehicles, all DIY, and the last time I went to Halfrauds was about 7 years ago when i was desperate for a rotor arm, and they sold me the wrong one....so you couldn'y pay me to go there.

In fact, if you know anyone who's ever been there for anything, they will say the same, be it paint, car parts, push bikes, everyone will have a tale of woe, be it price or quality.

    Halfrauds paint

    real paint

    real filler primer

real paint over real filler primer

and this isn't a professioal job, it was a £10 crappy gun, a £50 compressor modified and fitted on an old propane cylinder, a 1/2 litre of colour, a 1/4 litre of clear, done inside an old gazebo out side.

Thanks a lot for that, yeh im the same i dont really like halfords but have never tried their paints before so i wernt really sure if they were good or not, trial and error i suppose. Im NOT going to use them now will get some from car paint shop or do as you said and get a compressor even if i have to rent one

    Re: Spraying Advice

It's not mine, I restored it for someone i met on a forum, as I needed summit to do, and try out spraying 2k as I'd never done it before.

this is mine, 1974 mk1 Granada Ghia Coupe, LPG only, 3.9 rover V8, type 9 5 speed box.

unfortunatly it doesnt look like that now, and wont for a little while yet, click here to find out why

My Ford Granada Mk1 3.0L Ghia Coupe 1974 Progress Diary

and unfortunatly my 1996 Bmw E36 318ti Compact has taken priority in the middle of the garage

Love the shape of my Bmw, unfortunatly it's a long long long way off at the mo, It was all up and running up to about a month ago, but i'm now fitting a 4.4 V8, and waiting on people for the wiring, and ally welding of the oil pump are a ball ache.
