    Preparing Bay

Hello guys im currently preparing my engine bay on my Corsa B, grinding away the rust and treating that with a substance from hammerite, also a few days ago i used hammerite underseal with added waxoil to the crossmember and it still has not dried out which has p*ssed me off a bit, what i want to know is can i use a spray underseal over the top of the underseal on there now, and also when sanding the bay down is it fine to just key the paint up with wire wool

    Thanks in advance

Hammerite won't go off if it's mixed with anything other than, Hammerite thinners.

the tetroseal has strands of i think copper in it, so you cant really spray it, you'll need to thin it down quite alot and slap it on with a brush.

I am now at the stage for primer, all been sanded down with 120 grit for a good key, rust areas have been treated. I will be spraying those treated areas with etch primer, what colour primer should i use over the etch or will it be fine to just go straight with the actual paint coats, paint colour is star silver btw

    Re: Preparing Bay

if your buying your paint from halfords like i did (still not finished it yet) they normally tell you what colour primer to use on the top coat cans i.e i bought vauxhall midnight black and on the top of the can it says for best results use grey primer
i ignored this tho and used primer/filler which is yellow and hasnt made any real difference to the top coat.

    Re: Preparing Bay

seems ok not had any runs but guess its down to how good you are at spraying ? not sure about vauxhall
in scotland not sure about where you are theres a company called dingbro there paint is really good but you need a trade account to buy from them

    Re: Preparing Bay

Yeh suppose so, im pretty handy at spraying. The place i usually get paint from is a bit too expensive for a can of paint, around 3x price of halfords which is not good

depends on what finish you want if you've keyed the paint if will show through your zinc primer as that's quite thin unless your planing on giving it multiple coats where as if you use the primer/filler its high build (fills any scratches) so would only need 1 or 2 coats so speeds the job up

I am just using the zinc primer for the treated areas as its for bare metal application, will then go over that with a primer but not sure weather to primer the whole bay, i think i will just normal primer it all
