    Brake caliper mounts

Aha Ive finally managed to start my own thread lmao

Im fitting Brembos to my Vectra and my machinist is having confidence problems. Were having trouble confirming what material we need to make the mounts from. Some have said 7075 T6 and others have said high tensile steel. Fair shout on the steel but want grade of HTS?
Anyway I know some have fitted 4 pots on here so what were your mounts made from? Or could you point me in a direction I can find out myself please?

Were planning on using 7075T6 after comments from the other thread I hijacked

7075 should be ok, any grade of steel is going to be better at cost of weight though. How thick is the bracket? If you're down at like 5mm then obviously ally is not a good idea. Any steel with a bit of corrosion resistance would be good. I doubt you'd break anything in shear though - will the bracket be tapped? If so you're more likely to pull a thread out than anything else.

    Re: Brembo Calipers
Cheers, Ive just spoken to my machinist and hes happy with 7075 T6. Ill be running Astra VXR 321mm discs with 17" wheels. All mocked up and it all fitted ok, might need some spacers though.

    Anyone else with other idea?

    Re: Brake caliper mounts

Owwww, don't I get another go??

7075 when treated to T6 has a tensile strength in the 450MPa area, steels then start at about 500 going up to 1000+. You really don't need that though, 7075T6 is almost as strong as some steels and is well over what you require. If the calipers are cast Al then the mount lugs on the brackets are gonna be stronger than the ones on the caliper and you'd be more likely to tear the caliper than the bracket lmao

The only issue is the cost of 7075, you could substitute something cheaper if you wanted...

If you're really worried, just tell him to use EN24 lol

    Re: Brake caliper mounts

Cost isnt a problem fella I work with 7075T6 2024T3 301stainless and other steels everyday. I had to blend aprt of the caliper and just touched it with a file and it blended very quickly, it seems the calipers are very soft alloy. Hes happy to use 7075 and so am I
