designing and making a rear diffuser

would i be better using aluminium or steel? would this depend on the design (i.e what needed bending, welding etc)

    anyone got any initial suggestions?

car is a mk4 astra hatch by the way

I'd make a mould out of steel and then make the actual item from fibre glass, GRP or carbon fibre, etc.

Yeah, use grp or carbon. I've got some doodles I've been doing on Pro Engineer that I'm gonna try out soon. You doing it for looks or downforce?

I don't suppose you've doodled something based upon the fuel tank cover of a Calibra?
I'd be interested to see if so; for downforce not looks.

thanks all. sorry for the late reply.

going for looks rather than downforce to be honest. ive acquired a few sheets of steel so il make it out of that first (easier to cut/weld/generally bodge). il make any changes etc with that, and finally re-make it out of ally

    made a cardboard mockup

If you're doing it for aero, it's about 12 feet too short.

Ok. I've got loads on this week and next but after that I shall CFD some goodness

Unless someone beats me to it... I could do with a simple model or a dimensioned drawing of a Calibra to get the shape though if anyone's got one?
