metal cleaning acid dip

hi all is there a way to get my rocker cover clean as im wanting to polish it ive tried white spiret ect ect but its not really working i want it acid diped but unsure where to go so is there any sort of cleaning liquid i can buy anywere like plumbing shops that stuff you pour down drains or anything anyone on here has done to get metal clean cheers
