PROBLEMS trying to get PENETRATION

as said already, clean your metals up more, make sure the earth is solid. also are you pushing or pulling? try changing the angle your doing it and make sure theres no draught in your work area.

yeah i realised with a few minor adjustments they improve a great deal

im also lookin for a better weldin mask as the one i got 15quid from machine mart is rubbish, can u recommend any?

rule one of welding

preperation is everything

good prep leads to good welds dont try and weld through dirt
the weld wont penetrate through it, it wont give a good contact the arc will stray looking for the best contact

i use a flap wheel to clean all welds before use so im only welding bright shiney metal
even metal you know is clean needs a flap before welding

the best method with mig is too push the torch along rather than dragging it

if your still not getting penetration up the amps and slow down the speed of travel( not wire speed your hand speed)

onto masks
cheep masks are ok if your watching someone welding

but i would suggest getting an automatic mask personallyi would get the best you can afford

im using the speedglass type by 3m it comes with its own filter system and airflow
not bad for seconhand prices on the bay either

i can afford a 300 mask but would rather spend as LITTLE as possible, ive seen some 3m types with filter, plastic surround for 60 quid

r u sayin its best to go for one with filter system?

yep thats the type damn good price aswell

mine is the x type (large window) ive only got the adflow system installed as i do a lot of welding

filter system not needed unless you start doing alot of welding just keep area well ventilated(jam that door open)
