Question Sand Blasting - Corsa B Shell

I am planning sand blasting various parts on my corsa B (hence the last post). In the mean time I've been getting small parts done such as Wish Bones, Rear Axel, Roll Bar etc.

Everything I need to put the car on it's wheels but to save me time I'm planning getting the shell blasted and sprayed.

So I'm after advice on whether blasting the shell is a good idea.

Just now the car almost completely stripped. Dash is still in though, and the wiring for the engine bay minus the loom. Seats and interior are out, planning a track car so they won't be going back in (seats obviously will).
Also planning cutting the Spare wheel well out.

The areas I'm wanting blasted are, Engine Bay, Underneith of the car, Arches and the Interior up to dash area. So basically the whole car. Not the outside as it's not necessary at this stage.

    Questions needing answered.

Is this a good idea, if not why?
What other options, of getting the areas required on the car preped for respray / underseal, do I have. (without rubbing like a c.u.n.t)
What method of blast to use? So not to rip the thing to bits.

And the main thing I want to know is, where can I get it done and who does it?

Any other advice will be excellent, thanks

    Duncan

there are mobile firm's who will come to your house to do it for you, and they use different grade's of grit to blas, or a popular one for cars is nut shell and glass blasting. it will be quite costly tho i'd say £100 minimum and you wont be able to have just those area's done unless you mask it all off as the grit is fired out the gun at something stupid like 500mph so bounces all over the place.

Not really sure what's in your area for your needs, you could start with the yellow pages.

Mobile is probably best for you if getting your car to a company is difficult. Some of these firms have tents to deflect the grit but you need to make sure first. You also need to make sure that its etch primed after blasting ask if they do this for you as part of their service. If you don't it'll rust sraight away pretty much.

Blasting has it's advantages, for one as you know it'll expose all the nice shinny metal underneath. And the rot to, at least then you know what you are dealing with. The other major disadvantage I can think of is all the holes and recesses that you have all over the car, you don't want to gain any extra weight and believe me the grit gets everywhere. We normally mask these off with an abrasive resistant tape. Metal, Bodge(gaffer tape) and masking tape are not normally up to the job. Again it depends on the type of grit being used.

As far as not rubbing down is concerned anything you do get masked up will need some fettling, depends on what finish you want I suppose.

why dont you look in to getting it acid dipped, that will take all the paint off and rip the rust out too, then just squirt the full shell while you got it in the gun
