Question Painting Rear Springs on a Corsa B

I'm just about to have a set of rear springs of a corsa B painted but have come to believe that normal paint will just flake off.

So i'm wondering what the best paint to use is?

Also, what coating is used when they come out the factory, would it be possible to do that with normal spray equipment?

    Any advice will be apriciated.

    Duncan

    Hey Duncan

I've found that most springs are either powder coated, electrostaticly painted or dipped. These methods of painting can be expensive.

You got 3 choices of refurbishment, you can rub then down with wet + dry. Chemically strip them but this method is really messy or you could shot blast them. I personally wouldn't blast them to be honest because of the tension in the springs, shot blasting by all accounts changes to a degree the molecular composition of the metal, especially if their old spings.

At the end of the day it's what you can afford.

You could put a lacquer coat over your chosen colour to give an added protection. Too much paint would surely crack, sooner rather than later.

2k is probably best and readily available to you. I normally put a polyurathane 2 pk top coat on the stuff I paint and its well expensive

Tbh by the time you've paid someone to sand blast and powder coat them you could just buy a new set for about the same money
Custom C20LET/Z20LET Inlet manifolds from £250, XE/LET baffle sumps £50, Re-flanges, EVO TD05 turbo conversions, aluminium & stainless steel TIG welding, pm for requirements

Question Re: Painting Rear Springs on a Corsa B

That's a very good point. Think i will just go for new ones.

It's a long shot but does anyone know where you can buy springs and such like in the colour you want, as I was planning an exotic colour.

    Thanks for the help,

    Duncan

I've never heard of a custom paint spring retailer I'm afraid.

Do it yourself, just make sure you do it on a warm day.

400 grit wet and dry paper (wet) to key up
plastic primer spray can (as they are powder coated)
    colour spray can

Aim for thin rather than thick paint as this will be more flexible.
