preparing a engine block for paint

I am going to be painting my engine block with high temprature paint, i have started to prepare it, but under the flakey paint it is a little rusty and i was wondering what is the best way to go about this, i have got it to this stage using a dremel with the pink stone attachments, do i keep going at it this way til all the rust is gone, or can i put some sort of high temp rust eater on it, or would i be looking at getting it acid dipped? here are some pics of it

    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks in advance.

All i did was degrease mine. Hammeright sticks fine too. Never had any flaking.

instead of using pink stone on a dremel, did you try a stiff wire brush wheel in a drill machine, and you can also get various reust killers that can be applied to neuteralise rust and ready for painting after rinsing, or as has been said use hammerite stright on rust if you must.

i'd rather not use hammerite due to the temprature involved, i have already bought the proper high temp paint i'm aftre. i have used the stiff wifer brush, just didn't seem to do much atall, i found i got the best result so far using the pink stone, its just a bit of a nightmare getting all the rust off this way.

I just de-greased mine and hammerite brush painted it.
Be sure when using the high temperature paint that it isnt a matt finish, Most are and look crap on a block. (more suited to exhaust manifolds)

Forget the dremel you will be there hours and hours, took me ages when i done a cylinder head not long ago grrr. Yeh just give it a good degreasing mate, wash it down and then maybe just go over it with a wire wheel on a drill and little wire brush for the places you cant get too. And then just paint straight on. Im not sure if you can paint the VHT paint straight onto rust but hammerite will be fine to rust.

I'd use a wire wheel, attached to a drill or a die grinder or angle grinder. That will bring it back to good metal, then you can de-grease and paint.
