nova rear inner arch repair

i have just cut my complete quarter panel of and i have lost a good inch of my inner arch due to rust

anyone got any pics of how to recreate the inner arch to marry up with the lip on the quarter panel. i was thinking of clamping the quarter panel in place and then fiddling around with some cardboard to get some sort of template but this is obviously gonna be tricky due to the shape of the inner arch

it is beginning to take shape just wish i had attacked it earlier instead of waiting that last lot of snow and salt really took its toll im replacing more parts than i need to but thought its good to freshen more of the metal up to ensure the rust isnt in it. thats not rust all over the boot floor its some rubbish sound deadening i put on and its melted in the heat and gone like brown tar. will never put that on again

just found a new inner arch on ebay in germany for £39 delivered so that should solve that one

i only set out to weld a 50p sized hole

its actually starting to take shape just got to make the final cuts throught the quarter panel and pillars and sill.

im planning on welding a small strip of the pillar i chop off to the back of the pillar to create a landing inside so the new panel as something to but up against so i dont have to butt them up as welding that with a mig may be asking for some difficulty.

does anyone know the best stuff to coat the inside of the new panels with to protect them. i have used that waxoil brush on underseal but failed miserably as the water got in behind it and couldnt get out

Alot of the time, outer arches are cut up and used to replace the inner arches.

Fair play mate, a lot of work there. I would personally have re-shelled it. I reckon i remember this car. Do you remember having an A reg silver nova behind you for quite a few miles through tidworth and luggershall about 6 months ago?

Also have you decided to break it as im sure i saw the doors on Ebay....

Going back to the panel coating you could paint some of it. You can get weld through primer but I don't know how well it stays stuck after getting hot. Might help on the spot welded edges. The only other way to get it in the seams is to get some zinc primer or similar and thin it down and let it run through any gaps.

I have now fitted brand new genuine complete sills so shes getting back to her 80's glory, new front wings and things to go on as well. all genuine panels two from zee land of germans

Weld through primer stands up to welding well, I spray it on seams before welding up to stop the rust coming back.
