how 2 fabricate a performance intake manifold.

just finished making this intake manifold, thought id post this link up for others 2 see, because i couldnt find any other that have been made or made propely..

    hope you like.

That looks real nice, but how are you sure its "made properly"? just increasing the size of the plenum wont necesarily increase efficiency etc........ there are loads of considerations, like runner length, plenum size, runner diameter, equilisation of air across all cylinders.

But it is a fantastic bit of fabricating

That looks really good! Would be intresting to see a before and after dyno print out of the same engine (as i thought the std ons flowed quite well?)

Nice work mate, Most over people have the throttle body coming out from the side over gearbox so they dont have the bend 90d bend at the top, But saying that i like how you tryed to keep everything in the original place, Almost standard looking once its on.

But if it works better than standard good job, I hope it does well

kinda like mine, but i have run the throttle body over the gearbox as mentioned.

that does look good, but as ollied suggested - it will only boost performance in a turbo application or a very very high revving engine. This is because the standard inlet has tuned runner lengths (relatively long really whilst being compact), and the section in the middle is the 'resonator'.
There are calculators and formulae online for these calculations (helmholtz resonance).
Having said that its very nice and neat, wish i could weld aluminium as i'd be making similar lol!

Looks really good. The cutting disc on the lathe is brilliant! lmao

haha never even noticed the disc was in the lathe, love it!!

does the manifold take up any less room by any chance? reason i ask is that in a chevette a valver manifold hits the brake servo so if it was shallower then it would be a decent replacement for people who wanted to keep the standard servo without moving to a bias box or changin the inlet.

using a cutter in lathe and bolting job to cross slide is common.

    good idea looks well made.

Re: how 2 fabricate a performance intake manifold.

i have done alot of research before i started to make this, i have seen alot of similar intakes on performance mazda sites. and other sites. heres the web site where i got my inseration from: Tech Page
As for the intakes that have the throttle body on 1 side, i have been told it does not distribute the air flow to each cylinder evenly causing further away cylinders to be starved. im not 100% that it will work but i am getting it set up b4 and after on rolling road soon (when it stops raining) so will upload pics of before and after.

oh and thanx to "Brian S" i didnt know how to do that, lol

iam glad you polished it as it will reflect unwanted heat radiance from the engine...

in principle yours would less effficient in heating up the air from engine radiance [conduction of the metal walls] as the bore has a bigger cross section / less surface area to OEM
that should release a few ponies if nothing else

i have 3 spare inlet manifolds knocking around the lock up!
any chance of blue prints for a few beers?

iam now going to heat wrap my inlet manifold 1-4 branches from radiant heat transfer as polishing it looks like alot of graft lol

i dont have any "blue prints" just got sum 3m think 6inch tubing from scrappy and used cut up cireals box to trace dimensions ect. but getting the angle of the possition of the throttle was quiet tricky. ill see wat i can do tho.

Must be a very tight fit between the fuel rail and the throttle body.....

Well done. Now look at the pic, the bracket will be right next to the linkage that the cable pulls
so it wont be in the right place to work.. Cable will be to long/wrong shape at the end. Or so the pics make it look...
