if its already been painted and is in good nick it shouldnt need primer so just use 400, then 800 both wet, dry it off, if its dullish all over and no shiny bits then spray your colour onto it, build up the colour in light coats, the hotter the place u paint the better.

if it grey u should get away with just painting the colour after rubbing it down as above, let it dry and 1200 wet sand it (very lightly) then build up a shine with thin coats of laquer. (P.s try hanging the handle up side down when ur spraying it as less dust in the air is likely to stick to it) if u can keep the temperautre up it will help no end!

So i dont need to prime it then? Just sand it (400 then 800) and just paint it with the acctual colour?

    Cheers Dave

180 or 240 to dull the surface dry, coat of grey primer, then 2 coats paint on top, then two thin coats of lacquer, but with the can quite close so its wets instead of dusts.

You can prime it if u think it needs it, try spraying something like a bit of shiny, if the colour covers well u dont need to, if u can still see the colour of the card showing thru - prime it. I would let the primer dry before spraying on colour and laquer tho

if its aerosol ur using hold it about 8 inches away and move your arm at a smooth speed , its better to move quicker but watch what the paint does when it lands, u want it to just "melt" over the surface.

Got it painted last night. Looks good. Cheers for the help. How long does laquer take to dry? How many coats 2 right?

    Cheers Dave

see if the paint wasnt flaking off,a simple red scotching off would have done,

laquar can be dry in a few hours depending on how warm it is,
    2-3 would be fine,

    lol,
you didnt really need to flat it then,(my opinion)
as red scotching it will give it enough of a ruff finshed for the new paint to grip on to,
