    Question Painting a Turbo/Manifold?

I should hopefully be fitting the K26 some time soon. I've got some of the Halfords manifold paint and it says it can withstand up to 650degC. Has anyone else used this stuff or similar to paint the manifold or even the turbo on an LET? According to my EGT gauge the exhaust gases normally run at about 800degC rising to over 900degC when under heavy load (that was with a K16 so I would expect the K26 to run lower temps as it shouldn't be working as hard?). Would I be right in thinking the manifold itself should be cooler than the actual exhaust gases? When I tried lagging the downpipe with the best stuff you can buy it just fell to bits after a few months so I don't want to try that. Any advice/comments welcome

This stuff seems about the best, whether itll be enough for a turbo I dont know..

I think the key as it mentions is prep and the curing of the paint itself.

    me bitch hard !!
Don't use any paint mate - even if it states it's good for silly temps ??

A mate painted his SBD manifold silver with some high temp paint and it burnt off.

If you want it done proper and to last, then it needs to be baked on, or get it ceramic coated - then it helps lower engine bay temps.

The K26 manifold itself will be the same temp as the K16 as this is only heat from the cylinders (gases) so I'd imagine that won't change that much ? the turbo though won't need to spin as hard to pass the same amount of air (at whatever pressure) as it's a larger AR turbo - so yes that will be cooler

Ceramic coating ain't that expensive and is very durable !!

There is some stuff from tweeks but needs baking on ??

If u don't mind using your oven at full chat with a manifold and turbo in it - then that might be an idea lmao

Thanks for that Chip, saves me creating my own BBQ in the engine bay as this WILL be getting hot the way I'll drive it

I think it will probably fit in there - will just have to do it when the wife is out and clean it up to hide the evidence lmao

Any links to the stuff Matt?

You dont generally get the manifold glowing hot on a N/A car!

Thats the stuff - only 1300F though - thought it were higher ??

Saying that though it's baked on so gonna be better than ordinary high temp paint

If you need it chroming or anodising let me know, might also be able to get it powder coated. I'll find out the temperature durations on all of them

ive been thinking about either anodising or powder for my compresor housing, so get a price for that

not sure how well powder would last on a glowing manifold though :S

From what I gather the dye in anodising (if you choose to have one) chemically bonds with the metal so there's no chance of it melting. I've seen a few anodised turbo's anyway so it must be okay.

Price for a compressor housing? No problems.

edit - If I come down to pick Rob's head up, I can collect it then

Not sure if Martin Hadland will have had a chance to take it off by then, as thats what is holding me up currently, depends on when you are thinking of?

Youve seen an anodised turbo on the HOT side are you saying?
Ie the turbine not just the compressor?

would this prevent rusting on my lexmaul ?

it says its stainless steel in the sales pitch but in reality is mild steel or very low grade s/s
