    welder interfering with neighbour

just been out side welding for most of the day , then a neighbour comes over .. (one of those neighbours that you know loves to complain).. said my welder is intefering with his lights ! , ok i know sometimes my house lights dim ... but over the street ! ??

no one else has complained ...

i would love to just tell him to go away etc .. but i need to be seen to do somthing , as he started on about its ilegal to interfer with other peoples mains supply etc... blah blah...

I am running my garage of a mains plug indoors 8) I will now put this onto a separate fuse on the main board ... will this help ??

also could the welder do with a service ? would that help ?

is there somthing i can plug the welder into before it goes into the mains to help ? (not generator  )

    any help ?

I would shove the welder up his ar*e no way its pulling enough current to dim the light across the street.

NO way is it effecting him except in his petty little head. Ask for some evidence.

yeah it does... its hardly noticeable, it isnt a constant dimming, like if you turn on an electric shower or somthing that draws a huge amount of current.... it just makes the lights flicker as the arc is made... Prolonged periods can cause annoyance

    me bitch hard !!
There are them surge protectors that u can plug the welder into ? they tend to be used on cars to save the electrics without having to disconnect the battery.

Still I really can't see it? No way does it draw anywhere enough amps to cause dimming of lights across the street ?? lmao

I'd say speak to the electric board and see what they have to say, if your welder is doing that, then so is your microwave lmao

welder draws alot more than a microwave... and its the fact that it isnt a constant draw, its anways flicking on and off several times a seccond

Get him to stand watching you for a few minutes while you are welding. Then get him to go in and see if his lights flicker anymore.

Depending on the house wiring you will find IF you did manage to affect someones electricitys supply it would be only you next door neighbour and possibly theres, but no more, normally not crossig roads either due the the way the phases are wired into the grid.
I will almost guarentee your welder wont affect his supply, it has to pull a large enough draw through your house breakers to affect it, which would cause the breaker to trip - this is why you normally find it is only your own house lights that may dim slightly.
Also it isn't illegal to do anything with electricity as long as you aren't stealing his electricity, i.e. tapping into his supply so he ends up paying for it. Aslong as your welder is plugged into your house its going through your meter so you are paying to use it.
I would almost put money on it to say there is a problem somewhere else and its just a coincident (sp)!!

I was working on a car out front a while back, the next door neighbour is a pain in the ar5e - loves to complain, doesn't have kids so its not like we were keeping them awake. They called the police because it was 6.30pm and the spanners were making too much noise, the police came and went telling us to carry on, so out came the compressor till 11pm, plugged in under his bedrrom window. All it takes it a polite "please will you keep the noise down" hate people who complain first, making up excuses like its illegal to affect their electricity supply blah blah blah

It doesnt draw from their supply. The current drawn from the supply to the street can be affected by one house drawing power

It sounds as though you may be maxing out a budget welder if it's causing problems for neighbours. This is quite possible. It will only affect other houses fed from the same phase as you, and there are 3 phases you can choose from.

Unfortunately NO surge protectors or filters will make any difference. You need to turn the current down or buy a better welder.

When one of our neighbours turns on a tap or flushes their loo my water stops lmao

Bit of a pain when you're in the shower but for a seperate water supply to the mains (we share them in batches of 4 or 5 in the street) the water board want many hundreds
