    spraying bumpers

i want to colour code my bumpers white to match my car but i cant really afford to get someone to spray them for me.
i was thinking about doin it myself with spray cans but i wasnt sure how it would turn out do u think it would be better for me to wait until i can get a pro to do it for me.

I recently sprayed my Nova MK1 bumpers in a metallic paint from Fords colour range. Basically normal car paint that is used on bodywork. As long as you prepare and take your time you should get a good finish.

You need to remove any paint on there, give the bumpers a good clean, then wipe em down with a spray called 'Bumper prep'.

Use a plastic primer, plenty of coats, then 1200 - 1500 grit wet and dry. Smooth primer with it.

Clean again till no dust dirt or grease. Then spray the colour on few coats till you are satisfied. Let it dry then if its metallic some laquer.

I used this method and the result is very good. Im very pleased.

Well for my bumpers I used 2.5 cans of spray colour (3 cans), 2 cans of primer and 1 can of laquer. Id say go for 4 cans of colour and 3 cans of primer.

The more coats of paint you can apply the better and durable the finish will be thats why I used quite a bit.

    Good luck

Make sure it's in a warm environment when you spray, and build the coats up gradually and lightly.

Whenever I spray anything I do it over 3 days, 1st day prep, 2nd day painting and 3rd day lacquering and finishing the surface.
To be honest though the money and time you spend, you might aswell take it to a pro, try speaking to some1 who has use of a paint workshop, rather than taking it to a business.
The end result is never that great, and it will usually peel off after a couple months.
