    Spraying questions

Ok I just got a compressor to respray my body kit and other bits but not sure on:
A: How much primer, paint and lacquer I'll need to buy and
B: what the mix of paint/primer/lacquer to thinners is best

The colour is Vauxhall diamond black metallic.

    Any info much appreciated.

    Cheers guys,
    Andy

    Re: Spraying questions

    Hi mate hope this helps

Preperation- Panel Wipe and Tack Rags are the best way of making sure no grease or gritt are left on the panel before any spray work is applied, use a scothch pad and softly rubb down on panel to provide a slight etch for primer to grip.

    Once panel is prepared:

Primer-you will probs best off gettin a plastic primer as will most likely have the correct thinners as a package and it will have flextane in it already which will alow if there is any bending or movement in the bumper..

Basecoat- You will need about 1/2lt of material (mite be wise to buy 1lt incase of mistakes) to do roughly both bumpers and the sideskirts (depending on size) this is easy to apply it will more than likely be a polyester basecoat which you will need to mix either 2 parts paint 1 part thinner or you can do 1 to 1 depending on how thin you want the paint ( i advise if is a pearl do 2 to 1 mix) if is a standard metalic mix 1 to 1 and that will be fine. Spray on as normal building the layers up until happy,

Laquer- Now the paint will finish in a matt type finish and requires a laquer to be applied about 30mins after final layer of basecoast has been applied this will then give the gloss and shine to the colour (before laquer is applied the colour may look an off shade so wait until laquer is applied for final look) if using single pack laquer you will need to build the laquer up alot of layers until you are happy, if using 2pack laquer the high gloss will be created after 2/3 layers (but 2pack is dangerous to use unless using air fed masks as the hardner contains isosarnate which is harmfull)

Finish- once happy with the finaly coats of laquer leave to fully harden then polish up with a high grade polish and wax..

Hope this gives you a rough guide mate

Check with the suppliers about mixing ratios, especially for the laquer as it will vary from paint to paint.
